Its weaknesses are that it cannot store transparency and it adds visible halos around sharp text and hard edges, so it is a poor choice for logos, screenshots and line art.
PNG — PNG. PNG is a lossless format, meaning it reproduces every pixel exactly with no compression artefacts. That makes it the right choice for screenshots, logos, icons, diagrams and anything with crisp edges or flat colour, and it fully supports transparency. The trade-off is size: a photograph saved as PNG can be several times larger than the same image as JPG, so PNG is not suited to camera photos you need to keep small.
