Frequently asked questions

Why won't a site accept my AVIF file?

AVIF is newer, and some systems have not added support yet. Converting to JPG — accepted everywhere — fixes it.

Will the JPG be bigger than the AVIF?

Often yes, since AVIF compresses more efficiently. That is expected and not a quality problem.

Do I need to install anything?

No software and no sign-up. The AVIF-to-JPG converter runs in your web browser, so it works on any device — Windows, Mac, Android or iPhone — straight from this page.

Can I convert more than one file at once?

Yes. Drop in several images and they are converted together; a single file downloads directly, while a batch arrives as a ZIP.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser — your images never leave your device.

Why convert AVIF to JPG?

AVIF is a newer, very efficient format, but some older apps, editors and upload forms do not yet accept it. Converting to JPG restores compatibility.

Understanding the two formats

AVIF — AVIF. AVIF is a newer format based on the AV1 video codec, and it usually produces the smallest files of any common format at a given quality, with excellent colour and high-dynamic-range support. Its limitation is maturity: support in older browsers, editors and upload systems is still catching up, so it is not yet as universally accepted as JPG or WebP.

JPG — JPEG. JPEG is the universal photo format — nearly 30 years old and readable by every device, browser and app on earth. It uses lossy compression that is superb for photographs, keeping files small while looking clean, which is why cameras and phones default to it. Its weaknesses are that it cannot store transparency and it adds visible halos around sharp text and hard edges, so it is a poor choice for logos, screenshots and line art.

What to expect from the conversion

AVIF often has excellent quality at small sizes, so the JPG output may be larger than the original AVIF — that trade buys universal compatibility.

How to convert AVIF to JPG

Drop your AVIF file into the box above (or click to browse and select it), and the tool converts it to JPG right away. The JPG output is already selected for you, so you can simply download the result. Everything happens on your own device — nothing is uploaded, which means even private or sensitive images stay entirely with you.

Need a different conversion, or want to process a batch? The full image converter handles JPG, PNG and WebP together, and you can pair it with the compressor if the result also needs to hit a size limit.
